Hi,
When I put the steering wheel on full lock (right hand) and at low speed I can hear water running behind the dashboard. If I then switch to full left lock I hear nothing - then the noise returns again as I switch back to full right lock. The car is a Ford Focus. Any ideas as to what the cause might be?
Thanks

Check under the bonnet that the wells where the windscreen water drains into are not blocked with leaves. I had exactly this problem with my old Vauxhall Carlton. I seem to recall someone one here a while back with a Fiesta with a similar sounding problem but cant remember what the remedy was.

Is it really water running or is it something which sounds like it? I wouldn't expect you to hear the sound of any water that there might be in the heater air inlet area.

The sounds you hear on full locks are usually the bypass valve in the PAS operating;as this is close to the bulkhead, could this be what you hear?

I should add that if you hear the noise on full lock, try easing the wheel back slightly to see if it stops.

It's the power steering pump thing (tell I'm a techie) you can hear it on all Focus' on full lock. Nothing to worry about.
