Which door handle ? The one inside, the outside the front doors, the one on the hatch ?

We're going to need just a little clue here.

p.s. What's gone wrong that you need the door handle off ?

If the door's dropped, taking the handle off probably won't help.

Yes, the door dropping can happen as the pins in the hinge wear.

You will probably have to lift the door or have the pins replaced.

My Metro, owned MANY years ago featured a very saggy drivers door. Due to extreme lack of money at the time it was never fixed. I had to lift up the door as well the handle to open or close it. Is I didn't lift the door when closing it the result was an almighty bang as the door didnt shut.

Hope this is some help

I HATE Metros.
Re: thicko needs help - El Dingo (Martin)
My old mini van had the same problem - lift the door to shut it. In my case, if you didn't lift the door it wouldn't shut.

My advice - trade it in - if the car has symptoms anything like my old mini van, it doesn't deserve the value of the petrol you put in it...

Good luck!

Martin.

Is your hate born of owning one?

They are great for learning about fixing cars because they are ususally broken. And quite fun to drive when they do work.
Re: thicko needs help - Trevor Potter
Just don't hit anything.
Re: thicko needs help - vansboy
Probably easiest if you take the interior door pad off. But you can get away with bending back top right corner, you need either to be a gynacologist or have a long thin extension with a 10mm socket on the end. 2 nuts to undo and a bit of fiddling with the linkage.
If the door's dropped try a lump of wood on a trolley jack under the bottom of door and lift it a bit! Temporary repair only.

Re: thicko needs help - John S
If the problem is a dropped door, then you don't need access to the lock - its the hinges or A pillar (the part of the body the hinges are attached to) that are at fault. Even adjusting the striker plate doesn't ned the door handle off.

Check the hinges first, but if the door has dropped due to distortion of the A pillar, then worry. It's probably rust. Don't know about Metro's but Minis would rust there in a big way. Major rust there should be an MOT fail, but importantly it means that the car will collapse in even a minor accident. Get it checked out.
