Hi folks - first post, so please be gentle...
I have been having problems with my 2001 Ford Fiesta 1.25LX, so I am hoping I can find some answers here.
Here is a summary of the problems :
1. When starting from cold it now likes to try and stall by dropping the revs. A bit of deft footwork stops this usually and it settles down to a relatively steady idle after about 45 seconds.
2. When changing gear I sometimes experience what can only be described as a block on acceleration when the revs are low. This is sometimes preceeded by an increase of revs when I apply the clutch before gear change.
3. I also sometimes hear a rattling noise on acceleration in the lower end of the rev scale.
Help is greatly appreciated in helping to solve the mystery. I tried Columbo. but he couldn't help - he said he doesn't understand fuel injection... ;-)

Many possible causes for those symptoms; but the throttle position sensor signals have an important role in idling and idle flare faults. The rattling noise might be knock-sensor related.
Your best move is to find a local specialist to read any fault codes and check all the sensor's readings in live-data.

as said too many ifs and buts with this ,get its bumps read (cost between £10/the moon--- try an independant first call that knows what hes doing ,ask friends for recommendations)

Previous suggestions about an increase in revs when pressing the clutch pedal has pointed towards a switch on the pedal somewhere.
Also there has been previous mention of pulling a 3 amp fuse from the fuse box - more details here:-

There *may* be some other helpful stuff here as well.

I will try the ECU thing, and if matters don't improve I will have to take it somewhere.
Thanks for the suggestions so far - top stuff!

Tried the ECU reset - no change... Could a broken/failing catalytic converter cause these problems?

Our Fiesta was finally cured with a new throttle sensor.

Catalyst failure would lead to failed emissions or limit power. Sorry mate time to go to a garage, KwikFit won't fix this one ;-)

**UPDATE**
Forgot to tell you what it was... Took the car to Dagenham Motors and they discovered I had Diesel in my tank - not put there by me, so must have come from the last filling station I used. Bit angry, because it is one that the company I work for owns. :-(
Thanks again for all the help.

Thanks for coming back with the fix. It's not unknown for a tanker driver to get the wrong tank.
Hope the filling station paid for the repairs.

For a second until I saw the year of the car I thought you were this guy www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=43101&...f also called Matt. Was going to say 'Serves you right ;o)'
But as it's not the same person, glad you got it sorted.
