IME (In-motorcycle entertainment!) - L'escargot
As I walked through a car park a Harley Davidson came in with what appeared to be a radio/CD player going. I've never come across that on a motorcycle before.

Common on Honda GoldWings and on high end touring BMWs etc.
I don't see the point of using a system with speakers on a bike - though many bikers use earphones to listen to MP3/CD, take phone calls, listen to their pillion passenger or their SatNav. Some also have bike to bike comms.

Too much technology for me though.

Yep, a few of my triking buddies have fitted pretty substantial sound systems to their machines, with MP3 sockets etc. The trikes vary from production machines like Rewacos (based on VW Beetle), car conversions using chassis/rear axles from Reliants (often with engine transplants, eg Rover V8), or Jaguars, and in one case a BMW 7 Series, to conversions of bikes such as a Yamaha V-Max, Honda Goldwings, Buells and of course Harleys. The speaker output is loud enough to be heard when riding in front of them - quite an achievement when you consider how loud the exhausts are. I guess if you're on a trike it's not exactly with a view to travelling incognito. Some also have sat-nav systems, and one of them has now fitted a cupholder to his handlebar for hot soup on a cold run! I told him it was a very nice car he had there. Still drank the soup when he offered though, I may be a hypocrite but I'm not a fool ...

I remeber as a kid, walking through town gawping at the local psychobillies on their scooters with stereos fitted, thinking 'wow'.
