Toyota are offering two day (but the paperwork actually says the car to be returned within 72 hours). We had an Aygo for a weekend.

Last time I changed cars I hired the model I was interested in for a week from the main dealer.

This does cost money but it's the best test drive I've ever had, and no pushy salesman breathing down you neck, either.

Hiring is a good idea but unfortunately more exotic cars are not usually on the list. Anyone hire me a Megane 225, Golf R32 or Imprezza?

You could, for instance, hire the Ford Mondeo ST with the 2.2 TDCI engine - somewhat more interesting that the standard 1.6 or 1.8...:-)
