RDS 5000 vs. RDS 7000 - psi
Does anyone know the difference between the RDS 5000 and the RDS 7000 (Ford OEM radios). The "Audio Guide" doesn't show any major differences apart from "high power" on the tape flap of the 7000 and an electronic tape eject on the 7000. Anyone know the power output difference? cheers

Not sure though the 7000 might be CD changer compatible and the 5000 not?

The 5000 is definitely changer-compatible.....mine works a treat !!

7000 has soft touch controls, a rotary volume knob and another 5W RMS per channel (25 against 20)

Do you want cassette functionality? 6006 have 6 discs without the need for a remote disc holder, about £130ish on ebay.

yeah i use a tape adaptor for my ipod (the cable is fed through the inside of my current (5000) head unit (no aux input on them unfortunately) and looped around the console in to a female 3.5mm socket in my ashtray, it already has the cd changer under the seat, but i was wondering what improvement I would get in terms of RMS, so poking about on fleabay now :)

I know I am probably a little late in on this conversation, but I too have a question about the 7000 v the 5000. My Mondeo currently has 5000 with CD changer and also steering column remote control. I purchased a 7000 from eBay but the connections for the remote control do not seem to be there (there is a connector, but with a different pinout). Can anyone let me know if the 7000 is compatible with remote control (and if it is, please could I have the wiring details for the remote connection). Thanks V Much

When I replaced the 6006 6 CD unit in my Mondeo for an MP3 compatible Pioneer unit and wanted to get the steering controls working I came across the fact there Ford changed the remote connectors around the time that the C-Max was launched, it may be that your unit is earlier or later than your car.

You may be able to use an adaptor from Autoleads or similar, try Googling.

On another matter I guess you ride a 1002cc Yamaha?

Hi Cheddar,
OK, so if I understand you correctly, the 7000 should work with steering control but I might just need a different connector? I will try googling, but trying to get a decent search phrase that doesn't give me thousands of pages of garbage (or no results at all) is problematical. If you cast you mind back, was the steering remote connector on your car the same length (approx) as the speaker and power connectors or was it about half the length? The remote connector input on my newly-aquired 7000 is only about half the length of the other two (car plug is more or less the same length as other two). Thanks for your help so far.

On the other matter, it is true that I ride a 1002 cc Yamaha (and cold it is too this time of year!) You sound knowledgable about said machine, do you happen to ride?

Google Autoleads and give them a call.

Yes, I currently have a '97 ZRX1100 subtlely modified with a full titanium Akrapovic, K&N, DJ kit etc, 120bhp at the wheel. I was always into sports bikes and only took the ZRX in p-ex for my 2003 ZX7R (one of the last, WSB replica with factory RR single seat unit, OZ forged wheels, full Akrapovic etc etc etc) and still have it 2.5 years later, it is great fun.

Quite fancy a 2006 R1, one of the last 20v ones in Roberts colours or perhaps an FZ1 Fazer, a brilliant bike, great balance of practicality and dynamics not to mentions stunning performance.

Regards.

many thanks Cheddar, I will try tomorrow.
Bike sounds nice, I like the idea the 06 R1, if only I could afford one myself :(
Anyway, thanks for your help and good luck with your dream bike
