A good race today but there are some serious questions to be asked about the continuing bias shown towards the Ferrari team.
What did Montoya do exactly which resulted in a drive-thru penalty ? To me it was M schumacher who carried to much speed into that corner and ran into Montoya.
If you go back to 1997 when Jacques Villeneuve was challenging M Schumacher for the champiomship the stewards bannes JV for the suzuka GP because he did not slow for a yellow flag in practice thus giving MS the chance to score points and take the championship to Jerez.
1999 Irvine/Hakkinen at Malaysia . The Ferrari's had illegal barge boards but the decision went in Ferrari's favour allowing the championship to go to Suzuka.
Even Ron Dennis has questioned the bias shown towardds Ferrari on many occasions.
I'm a big Ferrari/Schumacher and Montoya fan but want to see fair racing -its not happening.
BTW shame about Jenson really deserved that podium.

I could not agree more! I was throwing a complete wobbly when that all happened. I've wound it back a few times but it just does not change. The swerve at the start by Michael was blatant as was Rubins at Melbourne with terible results. I would like to see that ruling reviewed.
Any circuit racers here with a thought on the starts.

too many forget motor racing is supposed to be a non contact sport in my honest opinion.
As for the first corner incident...... six of one half dozen of the other.
Montoya was not clear ahead and took a fairly tight line considering that fact, Schuey was clearly behind and was a shade forceful in demanding space.
If it had been yacht racing, protest flags duly hoisted and all sorted out in the jury room at the finish. Not possible in motor racing as TV demands a clean and obvious result for the dumbed down.

The trouble is it is all really rather boring. The markers are laid down already and it looks like it will be a straight scrap between Montoya and Schumacher M., ably assisted by kindly stewards, watch out Monster! Sorry Ralf.
Unless of course McLaren get their act together, in which case maybe Raikonnen will be a factor. I don't think Coulthard is in with a shout unless he gains a generous slice of good fortune, which both he and Barrichello have had missing throughout their respective careers.
Unless Montoya makes a decent fist of it, it looks like M. Schumacher will romp to a 5th title. Domination of a sport is great for team whatever the sport but in certain sports such as motor racing it is terminally boring. F1 needs livening up a bit. Considering Montoya and Schumacher came from the back of the grid after pitstops to reach 2nd & 3rd respectively, surely it makes sense to start them from that position, if only to make the race interesting.

Surely in stock cars the experts start from the back?
If you applied that to F1 then you would have to go away from determining grid placings from practice times or else you would have MS and co. going as slow as possible in practice to get to the front of the grid!

To right Brian! And in old spice legends!
Winner of the first race starts at the back in the second!
It's great!

I don't have a strong view on the first corner incident, but I do have a view on the TV coverage - it was awful.
I know it is filmed and produced by the locals, but this was no where near the standard the Malaysians achieved last year. It looked to me as though they had given cameras to a load of schoolkids and just told them to take film of racing cars - any ones will do.
I wonder if this is connected with Sky having negotiated TV rights on a pay per view basis. Apparently they put their own camera crews in. I shall be watching developments in this arena closely and if it gets any worse then I'll stop watching altogether - I wouldn't pay Murdoch in washers!

Talking of Sky has anyone subscribed to the F1 coverage yet? Is it worth the expense? and is the coverage that much better?

Unfortunately, I couldn't agree more. I know there may be matters of prestige involved for the local production team and their directors but if the huge amounts of money paid for TV rights are to be justified there has to be better quality in the service provided. It is time for an experienced TV race director and team to follow the circus for all of us who don't want to line the Murdoch pockets.

"If it had been yacht racing, protest flags duly hoisted and all sorted out in the jury room at the finish. Not possible in motor racing as TV demands a clean and obvious result for the dumbed down."
I think it would be hoot if F1 Racers could take another leaf out of the RYA rules and exhonerate themselves by making a 720 degree turn!

Isn't there provision for the equivalent in the form of a ten second compulsory pit-stop?

Nothing in the world would be as entertaining as a car sideways on a track with car coming on at 200mph.
To (mis)quote Tony Curtis "The best show since the Impresario of the Coliseum put the Christians and Lions on the same bill...".
