Scenic has done 30000 miles and is on its second set of front tryres. When washing it today, noticed that the outside edges of both front tyres is badly worn but the rest of the tread is fine.
Is this a simple alignment problem or something more serious? I had the car into the garage a few weeks ago as there was a slight clunking noise coming from the steering when it passed through the straight ahead position. They fixed that under warranty but now I feel that it is slightly pulling to the right? Would that explain the tyre wear?

yes its possible. Could be something else too!
return to them and explain new problem; see what they say. Most should look at car for free to check they have not missed something etc.

I will take car back into dealer to ask their opinion. Their last work stated "checked steering for clunking noise, found to require new strut mountings. Fit new mountings and test, all ok"
Could that have any bearing on the tyre wear?
Also, this may sound a silly question, but with the Scenic having the electric PAS that "self centres" can the alignment be checked and fixed at a fast fit place or could it end up self centering in the wrong position?

Obviously they have had the front suspension apart. They probably didn't check the alignment at the end of the job - hence the wear. I would take it back, expalin the problem and ask them to put it on the aligner (not just a tracking gauge).

Went in to dealer yesterday to book it in for another fault as well but they stated that their work will not have affected the alignment.
Am taking the car to an independent today to get the alignment checked and hopefully be armed with more info to take back to the dealer.

"Went in to dealer yesterday to book it in for another fault as well ..."
Not another one ;-)
Re: alignment. The problem will be proving anything. The garage **may** have cuased the problem but then so could whacking a curb.

Be aware, modern Renault geometry seems to be set up so that the outside shoulders wear on the front first.

Independent checked and found the alignment out so has adjusted it. It was out by 3, not sure if that is degrees or what?
