In HJ's column last week, HJ described how to get rid of smell in the car as below. Did he mean white malt vinegar or coloured?
First use bicarbonate of soda to get rid of the bacteria, then leave open bowls of malt vinegar in the car and boot overnight. This may read like an old wives' tale (and may well be one) but apparently it gets rid of the smell.

Has anyone read this from last weeks HJ column?

Yes.

Just aside. Last year the old motorcycle boots were starting to niff a bit (too much detail I know). Anyway I soaked the insoles in vinegar then rinsed them out. This year they certainly niff a whole load better!

it makes bombs greg, have a look at this :-(
its an ebay number................... 160038613082

Of course its white distilled vinegar, you can get it cheapest at a wholesaler, about £3 for 5 lites. You can use it on fabric topically applied, as it will break down into odourless gasses and water within 24 hours or so.
|
BTW, make sure it is vinegar, and not vinegar flavoured water (non brewed condiment etc...)
|
I was watching that Brainiac program one night and they said for example with smelly motorcycle gloves you can put them in the freezer overnight - this kills off any bacteria and thus the smell goes.
|
gives you frost bite in the morning tho

But, what would one do with the bicorbonate of soda. It says it gets rid of germs, but what do I do with it, put it into the bowl?
