I took delivery of a brand new MINI ONE on March 1'.
Great car to own and drive BUT,last Tuesday I noticed several stains underneath the engine bay-I presumed an oil leak on the power steering.
Have had the car back in my local BMW dealer twice, the second timeyesterday.
The conclusion is that the oil stains are actualy oily water from the run off pipe
for the AC.
I am still not convinced. Apart from getting independent advice Im at a loss
what to do.
1.Are there any MINI owners out there with AC who have noticed similair stains
underneath their cars?.
2.Does the "oily condensation" theory ring any bells with anyone?.
Any advice would be welcome,
Cheers,

The best way to check exactly what is coming out is to put a drip tray under the offending area and see what is there in the morning.
Sorry its not more technical but I hope it helps.

THANKS FOR THE TIP JOHNATHAN,BUT I LEFT A BOWL UNDERNEATH THE CAR LAST FRIDAY FOR 5 HOURS AND MANAGED TO GATHER WHAT LOOKED LIKE OIL TO ME BUT MY OIL LEAK THEORY HAS FALLEN ON DEAF EARS.

my daughter has very recently purchased mini one albeit no A/C I will check the tarmac for any oil next time she is around.

Was it not a standard feature of the old Mini that it regularly pissed oil all over your drive ??? - BMW have very kindly included this "feature" in their new replica.

I wonder if they've enginered in 'seam bleed' under the headlamps as well?
Rust? Anti-corrosion warrranty? Oh, certainly not Sir, certainly not. That is just 'seam bleed'. Its not corrosion, Sir! Copyright A. Rover-Dealer
(Above all, they're Rover dealers. And the cars are all dogs. God Rot 'em)
At least BMW will sort it out for you!

"At least BMW will sort it out for you!"
Oh?

Got a Mini with a/c - no seepage to speak of. Whenever I've seen a/c run off on other cars, its been like a big puddle of water - not oily.
Try not using the a/c for a few days and see what happens.

RAN CAR TODAY WITH A/C OFF.HAVE JUST CHECKED UNDER CAR AND,YES THE DAILY OIL STAIN HAS APPEARED.IT IS OIL AND NOT A WATERY MIXTURE.

Have you actually used the a/c ? I suppose the answer is yes as its a new toy.
It should only be clear water running from the a/c.

Oh dear , surely not trouble in paradise from the ultimate driving machine?

Got a MINI Cooper outside right now. Will check for oil under. Worth RASP looking underneath his, just in case a traffic harming measure has half taken out his sump plug. Er, Neil, the headlights lift with the bonnet. Anyone who ever worked on an old Mini won't believe the space round the motor on the new one.

apparantly you can buy a BMW lifestyle tool that scrapes your knuckles in a close but slightly distorted facsimilie of the original scrapes that a Leyland/Austin/Rover Mini did, the only difference is you can do it in the comfort of your Armchair and then use "proper" BMW plasters from their First Aid kit to repair the damage. (oh happy days)

Have they mounted all the electrics right at the front, so the engine cuts out when it rains?

the ultimate con more like..... was in the arrogant ivory tower that passes for a BMW dealership the other day and overheard a tirade of abuse from a lady (?) who had a totally crap MINI, apprantly she had bought it because the 3 series compact predecessor was also crap.
Change the dealer madam...

Why is everyone dying to see the Mini fail?
Some sort of misplaced jingoism I reckon.
It's not a Mini - it's a mini BMW. It's still a bloody great car.

Agreed boost !
The new Mini is an excellent car. I'm glad BMW made it because Rover/MG could never match the build quality.Rovers new Mini probably would have been a Rover 100 with large wheels and spoilers and fancy paint scheme just like the current MG's.
My old dear has a Cooper with A/C so i'll have a look next time i see the car.

The Cooper is huge fun round corners and will flick out the back even with the ASC on.

Dont all Beemers have that unexpected 'flicking the tail out' feature? ;-)
