replacing air con pipes.....306 hdi - scfc_151
My air con went for re-gassing which showed a leak on the pipe that goes across the radiator. This is where the bracket joins which i no is a common problem.

I was wondering if its possible to replace pipes with rubber? I thought it might be easier, cheaper and longer lasting. Or am i way off the mark?

Ive heard prices of £50-70 for this pipe alone and theres probably more leaks elsewhere

cheers

I've heard Pug made the air con pipes out of different metals that then suffer from electroylisis and corrision.

If you can get the replacements machined yourself out of the same metal as the rest of the system you might be onto a winner,

try speaking to a local hydraulics company as they quite often make up custom pipes etc. so should be able to make something suitable that will actually last

They've got unique ends that no hose supplier can get hold of.

Just buy the real thing and use waxoil around the clip to prevent ingress of water/salt and corrosion.

"should be able to make something suitable that will actually last"

The problem arises from electrochemical corrosion where the light-alloy pipe is fixed by a steel clip to the bodywork. The rubber separator finally fails to do its job. Another way to prevent the problem might be to replace the steel clip with something more suitable. Rubber tubing - a definite no-no!
