Many possible causes depending on exact year and engine code. Anything from a split O-ring on the pressure regulator, through a duff rail pressure sensor, to a worn HP pump requiring a complete new [£2,500] fuel system. Just the common faults and fixes would cover half a page. What's the primary and secondary pressures at idle? Are any of the injectors showing excessive leak-back? Are there steel [magnetic] particles in the fuel-filter housing? Did the code have a number - P1112 by any chance?

thank you for the info I dont suppose it could be something easy as I am told hdi16s are reliable

"Something easy" - on one of these? "Reliable" - as compared to...?? The basic engines are fine; much better than the old TD which cracked heads with monotonous regularity. It's the half-baked electronic injection system that lets it down; horrendously over-complex, working at the outer limits of materials technology, completely abuse-intolerant - and full of French connexions too.
Stick a litre of cheap engine oil in with the next tankful and try it. They hate supermarket fuel and the pressure regulators really need some extra lubricity.

It should be much more than that shouldn't it?
Have you checked the fuel filter housing for swarf? This is important.

please be informed this is a petrol HPI guys and not a diesel

If you'd bothered to answer the very first question re. year and engine code it would have saved everyone wasting their time. If you can't even tell whether it's - as clearly stated in the thread header - a diesel HDi 16v or a petrol HPi, what's the point of advising?

Many appologies you are completly right of course. But be informed I'm a first on this site????
