Reuters: Inventor turns dead cats into diesel
A German inventor says he's found a way to make cheap diesel fuel out of dead cats.
Dr Christian Koch, 55, from Kleinhartmannsdorf, said his method uses old tyres, weeds and animal cadavers.
They are heated up to 300 Celsius to filter out hydrocarbon which is then turned into diesel by a catalytic converter.
He said the resulting "high quality bio-diesel" costs just 15 pence per litre.
Koch said the cadaver of a fully grown cat can produce 2.5 litres of fuel - meaning around 20 cats are needed for a full tank. He said: "I tank my car with my own diesel mixture and have driven it for 105,000 miles without any problems."
Annelise Krauss of the Dresden Animal Protection Association blasted Koch's new diesel though, saying: "This is as bad as experimenting on animals."

Is this story early or late for 1st April?
Wonder how much fuel you get from a badger.....
And how do you heat to 300c? Hopefully using bio methods and not coal or gas powered powerstations......
|
presumably heated with the aid of a catalyst
couldn't resist...
|
The advertising slogan 'Tiger in your tank' was years ahead of its time.!!!!
|
Presumably he goes along to his equivalent of the RSPCA and says: "Diesel do nicely"...:-)

This is old news - September 2005.

(for German speakers).
Not the most reliable newspaper.
The article was published.
Next day: editor writes: not the best article we have ever published.
The day after; no truth in it whatsoever.
|
It seems to say no truth he actually used cats, it was just something the press made up to make a good headline, he just said animal cadavars could be used.

"And how do you heat to 300c?"
He drives a huge Chrysler and it's gone to his head.....

I do not wish to cause distress or offence to anyone ....

Hey, don't shoot the messenger. Someone complained and I merely acted upon it. DD.

Sorry DD, no offence. Well done Armitage one can't help thinking... perhaps I should try harder to be offensive.

Who lets these people back into the community?
|

The link from NVH shows the original article published in the german "Bild" newspaper. In terms of factual reporting this ranks somewhere between the Sun and the Daily Star. In the accompanying (german) article, both Dr Koch and and Mrs Krauss apparently deny having made these comments and the very last sentence indicates that legal action has been taken by Dr Koch. So, sadly, no solution for all those stray cats after all.
