Apologies if i have missed anybody mentioning this but from tomorrow "morethan".com/drivetime. are piloting a cheaper insurance scheme for anyone between the ages of 18 and 25 the only stipulation being that you cannot drive between the hours of 11pm and 6am withouy being fined £25 everytime you do it.
Yes i know NU did and probably still do a similar scheme but anyhing to keep insurances down to the sensible drivers amongst us is for the common good........

Apparently you're ten times more dangerous or something driving between those hours. I wonder where they got their statistics from, unless it's people falling asleep at the wheel. I really enjoy driving at night and would have no objection to having a black box in the car if it weren't for these insane restrictions. What if I work late? What if I want to give someone a lift back from the pub? What if I just want to avoid the traffic?
Better than the Norwich Union one, where I worked out that had I needed to do an emergency 300 mile trip late at night (it does happen) I'd be charged nearly 400 quid for the privilege.
It's a nice idea, but until they get their heads screwed on it's not going to work. Incidentally, messing around with insurance quotes reveals that the moment I turn 21 my insurance drops to 600 quid anyway, so no more faffing around on my mum's policy.

So anyone of that age who works, for instance, in the services industries (an area on which the UK is now too heavily reliant with the demise of much of our manufacturing industries) and finishes after 11pm would have to find another job?
I would find it extremely insulting if I was within that age group.

I think the point is being missed ,over the years younguns under the age of 20 have always paid a much higher price for their insurance due to a minority ruining it for the majority,here is a way for the minority that really are sensible and arent driving round in the small hours and leaving the pub/club to get a reduction in their premium..
I for one think that it is an excellant idea and will also give the insurance company an insight into young peoples driving habits as the "black box" will im sure collect more data than just times.....
These boxes for everyone are already being used in switzerland for road charging anyway so they are already just round the corner for the rest of us........

My local Police Force is fitting BBs to record data, they include remote downloading and GPS locators.

Judging by your handle you've forgotten what sort of lifestyle you probably had when you were 18-25...:-)
As I pointed out before service industries play a big part in the economy and outlets such as restaurants, fast food bars, clubs, pubiic houses etc employ a large number of young people.
Is it fair that they may have/have to pay more for car insurance even though they are working legitimately after 11pm?

unfortunately Stuartli all the places you mention would put an "extra" weighting on the insurance policy due to the selling of alcohol possibility of drinking alcohol opportunity
and no i do remember my youth and how we used to work down localt pit and go ter club on fut aftwarewards.......... grim days
