Vectra trouble codes - airman
My X25XE-engined Vectra often exhibits ecu trouble very briefly, without running problems, but I am unable to make sense of the codes which are usually "10-1-10-10" or "10-3-3-5". These do not comply with the format indicated in the Haynes fault codes manual or the "OBD-II" universal codes. Where can I get a decode for this format?

What year is it? What are you reading them with and what codes have you extracted?

[OBD-II is a group of US protocols and has no direct relevance over here unless you've got an obscure mid-90's Volvo.]

It's April 1998, I'm getting the codes by shorting pins 5 and 6 (on the 16 pin OBD connector next to the handbrake) and counting the flashes on the SD warning light. The codes I have observed are "10-1-10-10" and " 10-3-3-5". Perhaps they are in "P-code"? I see a note in the Haynes manual saying these code tables were not available at time of writing. Any ideas?

From your codes "10-1-10-10" & " 10-3-3-5",

That translates to codes 0100 (Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor) & 0335 (Crank sensor)

Perfick! Dogs doo-dahs! As I suspected, P-code, and like many such codes, 10=0. Thanks, Dave, IOU!

Always be very cautious with direct interpretation of Vauxhall codes. P0335 [missing crank sensor signal] is often seen before the engine starts [particularly on these Bosch systems] and P0100 can be flagged by many things [EGR etc.] that can affect the volume of flow through the MAF. Or they could mean exactly what they say.... Such are the joys of diagnostics.
