I would like to adjust my headlights for driving in France? I am informed that there is "a lever" behind the headlight for flipping them? Can any one shed any light on where this lever might be - drivers side, passenger side, and what it might look like etc. I'd be grateful for any help.
Cheers

If it can be done it will probably be in the handbook - if it isn't there it probably can't be done, by you. The adjustment on some cars involves a visit to a garage and you then drive to the port with your headlights illegal for UK (??!!). Bearing in mind that some Audis have to have the front bumper removed to have a headlight bulb changed I wouldn't fancy your chances of finding that it is easy or cheap or DIY! If you aren't using Xenons it is possible to do a bodge job with masking tape. Xenons are such high temp they melt the bodge tape!

Thank you for the reply. I have spoken to an Audi dealer (my handbook as you say doesn't cover it), and they said I could do it, by pushing the lever. I guess I will have to pop down there and get them to show me!! I dig what you're saying about the headlights, my wife's Passat blow a bulb, and whilst I was changing it, I managed to do £350 of damage - the electic adjuster broke (and I promise all I did was twist the bulb out, and the new one back in)!!! Poor design / ham fisted husband! Either way, I was gutted, and they did have to remove the front bumper to get the light out.
Thanks again

What lever is this ?
I have an 04 Avant, which I believe is the same model and was under the impression it wasn't possible without a headlamp realignment unit so I bought some beam deflectors.....

Sounds about right!! I have booked to drop in to my nearest Audi garage, so I will let you know if there is a lever (it was the same service department that told me about the lever!!!). I'm not paying them to change the beam direction, to have to pay them again when I get back!! I will also try your tip, and visit Halfords to see if they have deflectors....

I have a 51 plate A4 with Xenons. Wanting to go abroad I took it to my dealer who was quite prepared to change them over (for free) but as it was a week or so before my trip I asked hin to show me how to do it. It looked a nightmare to locate and do it, so I didn't bother, and kept my motoring to daylight hours as much as possible.

Thank you. I have being to Halfords and got some beam deflectors!! But will try to avoid sticking them on, unless I am required to drive at night!!! I prefer your "avoid driving at night" approach. Especially as cars from abroad don't seem to bother redirecting their beams driving here!.

I drive to France every month, and use exactly the same system on my headlights as the French do when they come over here. Nothing. To be fair, I do lower the beam though via the dashboard control. At Dover, P&O always give you a little sheet warning of the legislation an telling you all manner of stuff at huge prices for sale on board. In Calais, there is never anything for sale for the French coming over here though. Funny that! Mike
