my car has lost about half a litre of coolant in maybe 2 weeks, and the a/c compressor is covered in a fluid deposit. does any engine coolant flow through the a/c compressor?
my intial thought was that it was the water pump leaking, but can only see a/c comp from bottom of car?
car is a 99/v focus 2.0 16v ghia w/ a/c & pas

SFAIK a/c system and compressor only have gas in them and you couldn't see a leak if there was one. If you are losing fluid from the cooling system it must be coming from something in there, a loose, leaking, or split hose, the water pump or whatever. You should be able to find the water pump, it usually has two large black hoses, an in and an out and is belt driven (NOT being sarcastic BTW!

Sorry I thought I had been fairly clear!
1. You are loosing coolant.
2. It must be going somewhere.
3. It could be a leaking hose or hose connection
4. It could be leaking from the water pump, if you can find it.
5. It could be leaking within the engine due to a faulty head gasket
6. Is the car running at a normal temperature and just losing fluid, or is it running hot as well?
7. Is the car running normally in all other respects, power etc?
