Has anyone been using the Sky digital F1 Channel ? If so what do you think ?
Just had a look in the paper to see what time the qualifying is on and there not showing it live on ITV.If ITV start doing this regularly i will definately pay Sky £12.00 for live uninterupted coverage of the full weekends practice/qual/warm-up/race with all the interactive features.
Think i'm already heading for the Sky remote....

Sky are definately the channel for sport, and £12 compares favourably to getting bogged down in the mud at Silverstone after re-mortgaging the house to pay for the tickets. Just wish they would go back to slicks though, the racing is a lot duller since the move to grooved tyres. I would also like to see the banning of radio comms between driver and pits, so much more interesting when the drivers had to work tactics and positions out for themselves.

Going by what i've read this years grooved tyres will probably be slicks after 10 laps !.There already arguing about Michelin's proposed groove design.
As for radio comms i dont have a problem as long as the viewers can also hear whats be said (as in Champ Cars).
Like you say Tom £ 12.00 is not bad when you compare it to actually going to a F1 meeting.
Sky's main attraction is the ability to choose camera's, particular on board.Last years qualifying coverage was awful on ITV they missed loads of pole laps.Would be nice to stay on board with Schumacher for a complete qualifying lap.
Just hope this season has a few more title challengers to keep it interesting. Bookie's have Raikonnen at 14/1 worth a flutter.

12 quid seems like a lot of money to me. Somebody is making a huge profit.
I'm in Brazil and watched the NFL season, including the SuperBowl. 12 weeks, 8 games a week, total $70 (50 quid).
I'm not sure that F1 is interesting enough these days to make it worthwhile. Unless you invite a whole bunch of friends around, I guess.
It may not compare to the prices, but it can't be anything like the same experience - I've been to the GP in Sao Paulo, and it was pretty terrific, but on the tv ?

I wasat the superbikes at Brands in 99 when they drew a record crowd of 120,000 plus. While the athmosphere was incredable, we didn't get to see much of the racing let alone understand what was going on or how many laps were still to run owing to being round the back of the circuit where the tannoy didn't work. It was the hottest day of the year and the rip-off merchants were cleaning up with warm Pepsi at £1.50 a can, and barely edible burgers and chips for the price of a decent three course meal. It was not till we got home and watched the videoed Sky coverage that we really saw the race.
I bet it's cheaper to watch the Sao Paulo GP than the Brit event. I beleive it's ove a thousand quid fot two tickets this year, am I right on that?

I don't know for an ordinary ticket, but 1200 quid bought me a Paddock Pass and access to the hospitality stuff.
Out of interest, I will try to find out the prices of the other tickets.

near as I can figure the exchange rates, 252 pound gets a weekend grandstand seat.

Have you been to the Champ car races at Rio Mark ?
|

No, I rarely get the time. The Sao Paulo Grand Prix was a one-off, funded by a potential supplier.
And before you ask, he didn't get the contract.
I had two paddock tickets this year which I could have passed on gratis for anybody prepared to pay their own flight out here, I couldn't find any takers.

Correction ITV did show the qualifying live. My local paper made a cock-up (again).
For those of you who are going to watch the qualifying this afternoon -look away now.....
Dissappointing or what . If Ferrari can have such an advantage with a older car then this season will be a walk over for them. I had a hunch this would happen but was hoping Williams could really challenge.Probably the dullest qualifying session for a long time...not a good start.

Qualifying in Melbourne- poor coverage too.I found the closeups on the corners distracting, with no points of reference to establish situation/position of the car concerned. Its about time that Uncle Bernie arranged for a discrete camera team to cover all the races. I know its contractually problematical but he can move mountains- especially when he buys back off Kirsch.

Our local GP coverage has moved from SABC (public broadcaster) to supersport (a decoder system).
Watching the qualifying today WITHOUT ADVERTS! was a pleasure!
Normally, the SABC ran adverts DURING the racing, so you'd watch two minutes of Timber City, Castrol, Tiger Wheel and Tyre and Nando's chicken, only to return to the action to find there has been a three-car pile-up!
Many GP fans wrote to complain, saying they would actively boycott the advertisers...
