Vehicle storage - martin
I am taking my VW off road (garaged) until June this yr and wanted to know what, if anything i need to do in order for the car to stay happy and not cause any problems in 4 months time? Disconect battery? Tyres? Or will very periodic use be a better option for the engine?

cheers

Definately periodic use.
Or you might want to consider a Carcoon.

Hook it up to an Airflow Battery Conditioner. Keeps battery fully charged without overcharging it and does not affect the cars electronics. www.airflow.uk.com Make sure car is put away hot from a good 20 mile run and bone dry. Will minimise corrosion damage to brake discs, exhaust system, etc.

Make sure the oil isn't too discoloured as this indicates combustion acids which will have a chance to attack the engine during storage.

For 4 months you might not need to, but any longer and I would hold the clutch pedal to the floor with a wedge, to avoid surface rust which forms on the clutch plates jamming them together.

For this reason if you are going to run the engine periodically (which isn't essential) the clutch plates can instead be conditioned by driving the car a little, even if it's only a partial turn of the wheels.
