Does this vehicle have a chain or belt driven camshaft?

Open the bonnet and have a look. If there's a plastic cover at the opposite end of the engine from the gearbox it has a timing belt. If that end of the engine is all block, then it has a chain. You can sometimes confirm by taking off the oil cap. The chain on Mercedes and BMW four cylinder engines is directly underneath.
