Astra 1.6 Air Con - Number_Cruncher
Our Astra G, Z16SE has developed a leak in the air con. Theres a patch of oil near to the pipe connection and P clip just under the air filter housing on the drivers side inner wing.

Two questions;

1) Before I begin to take things apart, is this a known fault, with a known cure? I'm hoping that it is the seal in the connection, rather than the body side pipe rubbing in the P clip.

2) Does anyone know of a decent place to have the system leak tested, pumped out, re-oiled and re-charged in the Derby area?

Thanks,

If there's still some gas left in the system, then spray some washing up liquid and water where you think it's leaking.

I doubt it's the seal, that would just be too easy, so I would suspect the pipe's rotted or rubbed through. You can try to find someone to braze it with special rods, but it's not usually very succesful, as the melting point of the rods is only slighly lower than the cheapy ally of the pipe.

Good idea - There's certainly still enough gas in to allow the compressor to engage.

Well, I am prone to wishful thinking!

Thanks for your help Dave. Much appreciated.
