I may be clutching at straws here, but does anyone remember (or even have a copy of the mag, that'd be great!) an article in CAR ealry 1970s referring to the stillborn replacement for the Beetle? It was going to be mid-engined in the sense that the engine was under the rear seat.
I used to have this magazine, but have lost it in various house moves.
On a related tangent, does anyone have and want to sell any old issues of "Car" from the early days to late 80s early 90s? I would be interested in buying.

I'm fairly sure the car was codenamed the VW EA266. A Google search brings up a few photos of a prototype in the Wolfsburg museum

That's the one!! Brilliant, cheers Gareth.
YOU haven't got any old mags have you? : )

Not many CAR magazines and none with the EA266 in it, sorry.
I phoned them a couple of years ago to get a photocopy of an old article, they were very helpful

E bay has all 12 1984 issues and all 12 1987 issues at £12/year. The link was too big to post but a search for "car" + magazine brings up about 5 pages which are quite easy to look thru

Cheers for that.. I'll have a look to see if there's anything older as well.
I contacted the magazine themselves recently, but since they disappeared up their own yuppie posteriors in the 90s, they aren't interested in their brave, innovative past. I swear blind that the person I spoke to was Chantelle.
Sad sad sad sad sad sad sad. I need to start my own intelligent magazine.... or maybe forums like this are the future eh?
