Well, I don't know really, but my wifes Xantia HDi Exclusive is a 110 bhp, and is about the same weight as the Scenic you are considering with 108 bhp and I reckon the Xantia has loads of power for a "family " car (and also tows a caravan pretty well) so unless you need really fast accelleration (sub 8 seconds to 60 mph)and the ability to go round the M25 at 150 mph, then 108 bhp might do nicely - and it may be pretty economical.

The 1.9 is the best engine for the Scenic - at least until the 2.0 appears. Drive both and you will see what I mean. The 1.5 revs more freely than the 1.9 but ultimately lacks the pulling power. Both are very refined engines. IIRC the 1.9 now has a FAP filter whereas the 1.5 doesn't.

Xileno, the Scenic is booked in for Monday to get the air con sorted once and for all. What was the adjustment you got for your sunroof to stop it creaking?
Unless you tell my Renault dealer the problem and the solution, they seem to struggle!

I don't know exactly what they did. I just took it in and told them to fix it as it was annoying me. IIRC they said one of the runners needed adjustment, but I can't elaborate any more as I don't know the details.
Sadly the quality of dealers appears to vary, one of the reasons I stay with Renault is because the dealer I currently use is so good. Any issues are dealt with competently and on the first visit. They also don't seem to charge for everything, this is possibly because they know me and will buy another car. Sadly when I lived in a different part of the country, the Renault dealer there wasn't nearly so good although this was a long time ago.
However, I am sure this applies to all makes, we often hear people complaining about their VW dealers :-0

How dare you come on here and admit to towing a caravan, outrageous, go see a shrink , then off to church and beg forgiveness!!
My wife has a 1.9 Fidji, only 1 major problem in 3 years ( new engine within 4 months), no probs since, nice car to drive thou, but not much room with 2 little uns, for suitcases, prams etc.

"admit to towing a caravan"
I know, dreadful isn't it. What a bloomin' idiot I am. Still, got fond memories of carting very young children off to a beautiful, isolated beach in Greece, half mile long and crowded out with at least two or three other families in their tents/campers. Of course, we only got there after seeing the sights of most of the rest of W Europe, and the magnificent coast of Yugoslavia (as was). When they were older they appreciated Delphi, Parthenon, Corinth and other places for a few minutes before returning to the beach to pursue their interests in windsurfing, diving, sailing etc(courtesy of those other lovely Dutch and Austrian families on the beach who came properly equipped (I did take a lilo and diving mask and flippers). Then the final indignity, after 3 weeks at the beach (free) we used to get invited to that lovely chalet style home of the Austrians for a week, trips to Budweiss (taste that beer) and the Dutch couple insisted we go to Amsterdam to see their home and city. After about 10 trips like this one gets a bit fed up so wife and I now spend a few weeks cruising round France.
How I wish we had chosen to do package hols instead. You can't beat waiting a few days for a delayed flight, ending up in a hotel full of Brits, without your luggage, eating Brit food and if you don't like it, being unable to move on.
I realise the last paragraph is bigotted nonsense, but only the same as people who run down caravanning - I don't care, if you don't like it don't do it, but please don't "diss" those who do. Each to their own and may we all have a happy summer holiday (are you really going to a theme park in Florida durng the hurricane season? Is that why hols to Dominican Republic are so cheap in July? Will you be allowed out of the hotel compound or do you have to sit by a swimming pool for 14 days - only joking - enjoy your hols!!)
