Apologies if I am hijacking the site with this:
As a member of the UkSupra Owners club, one of our members had hi car stolen yesterday, in the Chesire area.
It is a silver MKIV Toyota Supra, totally stock in appearance, plate L522 RJN
If anyone on here has seen it today, could they give the police a ring with its location.
Again, apologies for this, I am sure HJ doesn't want this board turning into a stolen/spotted noticeboard.

I haven't got hysms to work yet (Tried a couple of weeks ago and again just now)
The down load is chronically slow and the stolen list by Counties does not appear to have anything listed.
Has anyone else managed any better?
Maybe you need to be in South Africa to access it !
|
That's probably because we end up with all the cars nicked in the UK!! :)
But seriously, I just recall the name from a few weeks back - I didn't check it!

HYSMC seems to be suffering from a distinct lack of advertising. Since it was first mentioned on this site, the number of cars listed has increased by....none. So far, there is only one car listed as stolen and the counter shows only 2000-odd visitors. A site definitely in need of a higher profile.

Hi,
The reason no cars are listed is because nobody has bothered to report any.
We can't make them up !. I'm hoping for a bit of publicity for the site (via HJ and motoring press) which should hopefully alert people to the fact it exists.
The search engines should also hopefully pick it up soon as its on the DMOZ register.
hysmc.co.uk is not backed by any commercial organisation, it is our attempt to provide an additional resource in the fight against car crime. This will only be successful if people who have lost their vehicles register them on the site.
hysmc.co.uk is not intended to make a profit for anyone so consequently there is no big budget behind it and it will rely on motorists using it in the unfortunate event of their car being stolen. We don't guarantee we will find your car but everything helps, its your site so use it.

So far as I can tell, the one shown is just an example at the top of the list, and none at all in the listings!
Maybe they should include a "cars found" list as well.
Otherwise, i can't see it lasting.
As I have said before, it's a great idea, but maybe it should be run by the police or DVLA, not privately.

Christ - I think I saw it being stolen but my mate and I couldn't quite work out whether it was being nicked or not.
If I am not mistaken it was parked outside the Angel pub in Knutsford which is where it was nicked from. As we walked past it on our way home (about 11ish) the guy in the driver's seat looked like he was about 16. There were two other young guys who as we walked past them walked off. We thought it was well dodgy and after we picked our car up, we drove past to see whether it looked really dodgy and whether or not to call the Police. When we went past there was glass on the floor which looked like the passenger window had been broken and the car had disappeared. We didn't call the Police because not having noticed the reg plate we thought the car was much newer, subsequently had an immobiliser and it must've been the owner of the car who was in it. If it had been anywhere else I would've called the Police but there are so many really young kids with very expensive cars in this area it is very hard to tell and if I called the Police everytime someone was in car that by my standards they shouldn't be driving at such a young age I'd be giving them 20 calls a night!
No doubt someone here is going to say I should've called the Police but even if I had done these kids would've been long gone by the time the Police got there - what makes this even more amazing for those who don't know Knutsford is that this car was on the HIGH STREET parked directly outside a pub and on a road with plenty of restaurants etc etc.
Amazing - I hope he gets it back in one piece...

After a spell in London I have learnt very quickly that if you see anything dodgy going on - DON'T GET INVOLVED - keep on walking. While this doesn't help Mr Supra or any of us, bear in mind the number of people who get beaten up or worse when challenging people up to no good - most recently that chap around Xmas up North who was fatally stabbed after challenging two car thieves.
It's the police attitude to car crime that puts people off reporting crime like this.

Sadly you're very right Guy.
After I read Rob Cook's post I felt annoyed with myself for not reporting it but it was impossible to tell at the time whether or not the car was actually being stolen.
Had it of been the owner and I'd stopped to admire the car and check things out a bit I am sure he would have been delighted but given the circumstances, you only need someone who's had one too many happy pills or is on their last warning with the Police to do something stupid then all for the sake of a piece of metal you're lying in the gutter half dead.
Bring on the day when like the US you can have an electric stun charger in the car etc renders the sh*t who is trying to steal your car unconcious...
Safe driving

The official attitude to cars is that they are of no value.
Report a theft of £500 cash and you will get attention.
Report the theft of a £10,000 car and you get a form filled out and "we'll keep our eyes out for it".

I'm amazed it was that easy to steal...
(sorry, that's not meant to sound unsympathetic)

Here is an updated version of a post I made on a very famous thread last Summer.......
"A couple of years ago I was sitting in a shopping car park with the baby in the back of our car. Two lads cruise past, baseball caps correctly worn, in a very tidy Sierra. They were taking a special interest in any sporty car.
I "knew" they didn't own the Sierra because it was a cared for older persons car and I "knew" they were looking to nick another car. Followed them to another car park as they looked further and I called the police on my mobile. The Police checked the number of the Sierra and said it wasn't reported stolen so there was little they could do, but they would look by later on.
At that moment the lads noticed my interest an drove away. Turns out they nicked the Sierra locally to their homes and used it to drive the 25 miles to where I saw them as the selection of sporty cars was known to be better. I gather they later found another fast car to pinch and dumped the Sierra.
It had crossed my mind to block the car park single exit but our baby in the car rather affected my judgement. It is really hard to know what to do in these circumstances."
Very easy to watch it all unfold in a sort of trance and do nothing.

Hi,
If you wish you can put this on www.hysmc.co.uk, the site is called
