Ouch. 1999 Lexus GS300. Driver's side wheel bearing was extremely noisy and got replaced at Lexus last week. Other side was found to be a little bit noisy, so I thought I would try getting that side done at an independent.
Trouble is, the noise is getting louder every day, and wishing to avoid an arm and a leg at Lexus again, where can I go?
Have looked at HJ list of recommended garages, but I'm in North London/Essex, and the garage I called is extremely busy. My usual independent is booked up solid.
I tried going to a Nationwide autocentre, but they claimed no experience of dealing with such a modern car, and would have to call me back!!! It's a 7 year old car, nothing new...
I need to get this sorted before a long motorway trip on weekend. Any advice welcome.
If no luck today, will have to take back to Lexus then..

Get it done soonest if you can hear it in a lexus,or the stub axle could be damaged,or worse.

thanks mate. it's the 2nd time the bearing has gone in 2 years, so hub is likely to have been damaged.

Just out of interest at what millage did the wheel bearings go on your Lexas???

A lot bearings are a press fit, and need press to fit in Hub,best let Lexus sort it,ie if you did get the correct bearing and fitted incorrectly hub damage would occur.
Assuming they are available as separate from hub?

Yes, you are right, this is press fit. The bearing is available separately for just 60 quid.
Managed to get a Lexus independent garage to do the job!

88k. Both front wheel bearings were needed. The passenger side bearing has been replaced just 10k miles before. It turns out that when it was changed before, the hub must have been damaged. So now, I've got a new hub for it too.
