Just been on Autsport.com and read a article saying Jason Plato has been dropped by Vauxhall for the BTCC so he has signed for the UK's ASCAR series. His long term aim is to join the NASCAR circuit , maybe even next year.
Would be great to have a English driver in the top US racing series.

Great. But how's he going to do 'Driven' from the other side of the pond? And wasn't that an amazingly positive decision by Vauxhall. Great guy. Wins the Touring Car championship for them. But they've already parted company with him. So they leave it stuck.
Bit like Ferrari sacking Michael Schumacher just before he wins the world title for them. Then telling hi to keep his hook slung because they've got this great unknown Italian driver for the next season.

Youre right HJ. Why is it sucessful british drivers lose drives ?
Mansell 1992 Williams,Hill 1996 Williams, Button 2000 (outclassed Ralf S) all lost a drives for the following year.
Vauxhall must be mad to let Plato go. Excellent driver and a good PR representive what more do they want ?

Perhaps he was rude about a Vauxhall on Driven. Small minds, some auto execs, I imagine.
|
Also short sighted, as his racing achievements will raise their profile much more than some passing criticism would dent it.

Stoy in Autocar today says that 50% of new current shape Vectra drivers have no choice about the car they drive. It's merely foisted on them by their company which has done a deal. Says it all.
