Hi there,it would appear that the immobiliser has failed on this vehicle.Anyone know if it is possible to disable it,and if so,how!!! Motor does not warrant the expense of an auto electrician, and local garage won't touch it(oh no sir, immobiliser way too complicated and we don't do electrics anyway!).Any help at all,be much appreciated!!!

When you say immobilisor failed do you mean the stop switch on the pump which is controlled by the immobilisor?
If it is this switch any competant garage should be able to remove the pump and replace this switch for you.
Only cheaper way is to get a cam belt locking set and a haynes manual and do it yourself .
Immobilisors on these old escorts are usually bulletproof by the way,are you sure that you havnt got a dodgy connection on the low power side of the starter motor?this gave your symptoms on a fiesta diesel of mine a few weeks back and i had to transport the car back to work with a lot of head scratching going on for me,nipped the spade terminal up and its run perfect since.

Thanks for your thoughts oldman, but it is definitely the immobiliser.I originally thought same as you but it did not start with a pull either!! Checked Autodata, and that confirms faulty immobiliser by way of flashing/not flashing immobiliser LED on dash.Any other ideas????

dont know the car but cant you put a live feed to the fuel cut off and see if it runs like that and if it does piggy back the feed to the ignition switch
only guessing at this so dont blame me if talking rubbish as it depends what else the immobiliser does

Defender, you are definitely thinking along the right lines!,however the immobiliser also cuts the starter motor.I have no idea what else it does, and don't want to spend the rest of my life running live feeds everywhere!!!Added to that, getting to the fuel cut off solenoid requires removal of the injector pumpp. There must be an easier way.I'm sure someone knows how...............
