I know that oldman knows way more than me but I couldn't see a connection between the grade of oil in the sump and a fault in the ignition system giving a misfire. Please enlighten me!
|
"Please enlighten me!"
The wrong grade of oil in Zetec engines will cause the tappets to stick.
As NC says, give it a few days (and a bit of italian tuning) and it could well settle down again.

You might find that the oil in the hydraulic tappets takes a little while to flush through - I wouldn't expect a sudden cure. Leave it for a week or two before spending any more.

Ahhh! All is revealed! The 'misfire' is a valve timing thing and not a sparky thing! Many thanks.
|
If I understand the fault correctly, it's the viscous oil in the valvetrain, particularly the valve guide and the hydraulic lifter, which can prevent the valve closing fully under certain operating conditions.
Our '92 Escort used to do something similar - with a large stash of 10-40 oil in the cellar, I never bothered using the correct grade. I just lived with the misfire, and avoided the operating conditions which made it worse. Once the engine was fully hot, and the oil thin, it behaved itself properly.

And the CVH did it on some makes of 20w/50!!

Will take your advice and leave longer before i try somthing new. Ps what is italian tuning what oil burner mentions.
|
Ps what is italian tuning
A forum search (just under where you log in) will reveal all.
ps, I've amended your shouting yet again!! - ie, typing solely in upper case.
|
Had the same problem on a MK2 Zetec engined Mondeo also try a tank full of optimax and a dose of injector cleaner and then take the car upto around 5,000RPM on a couple of occasions.
|
i apologise for the upper case.this is my first computer.and did not realise iwas doing something wrong.
|
is it running alright now?
|
yes thank you good advice. it still flutters at idle but does not move rev counter.but its got a lot of miles on the clock. i think im expecting to much
