Quiet in here today, is everybody still shell-shocked after the speeding camera debate ?
On another subject, you might find this is an interesting website. ITs not free, but the one free example they give you was all that I needed.
www.eurocote.net/eurocote/index.asp
Essentially it compares the prices and options available on vehicles between European countries of your choice.
Frightening differences, it might be the first time I've been convinced about the advisability of importing your own car.

p.s. if there is a lump of garbage in the middle of this, it was my failed attempt at an active link.

ooeer, something went really wrong.
However, it seems that if you click on *any* of the underlined text you go to the website.
Martyn - you could always sort it out for me, if you're in a good mood.

On the European Community site they used to have a comparison of prices for new cars in every EEC country. This took in a number of manufacturers and models.
Against a base level of 100% in the cheapest country it gave the price as a percentage before tax in all the other countries where that model was sold.
eg cheapest country Greece = 100%, Germany = 107%, France = 112%
The prices were adjusted to ensure the same level of equipment. The last time I looked the UK was the most expensive for the majority of cars.

Having now looked at the site Mark gave - it was in the same format, and it was free.

I have saved 12% on my new car by importing, over here all the dealer would give me was a free 6 CD autochanger. Not much compared to a saving of almost £3K.
