Where can I get reflective pressed aluminium number plates? They seem to have disappeared from the market-all you are offered now are plastic.

Try the Morris Minor Centre in Bath, (01225 4476590) or look in the 'Classic Car' magazines for suppliers. I believe that these places rather than the Accessory shops will be your best bet.

If you mean black plates with silver metal letering, try any Guernsey garage, e.g. Jacksons Mercedes www.mercedes-jacksons.co.uk/

I don't want black plates with silver or white letters,I want reflective plates(white & yellow) but made of aluminium;you used to be able to get them easily.

Did I recently read, or imagine it, that US size plates are now legal in UK? I would love to get rid of those ugly great blighters on my Mustang ragtop stored in Sussex and change them for something more appropriate.

You heard it correctly Growler!
For once common sense has prevailed thanks to a few car enthusiasts "high-up".
At one point it was looking like the EU bueraucrats were not going to budge - in which case people would have to be sawing up the back of their cadillacs etc just to make a correct sized plate fit.
Have a read if you're interested - The AAC have covered it from start to finish:
