Audi Climate Control ? - underbonnet
Hi all,

I can't turn off the Econ button on my audi A4 climate control. I remember having probs with it when I bought it last year.....didn't read the handbook but eventually got it switched off and got the air con to work. With the Econ button on the air isn't cold enough...Is this an indication that it needs re-gassing or some other fault ?
If it needs re-gassing, where can I go to get a good and cheap job done - not too keen on main dealers prices. The car's 4 years old 1.9TDi Avant. Many thanks, Underbonnet.

Before making a decision on the air-con re-gassing, I would suggest that you set both sides of the climate control to LO, ie minimum temp. Check then to see if the air is truly cold comming in thro the fascia vents. This is because, it is still quite cold and the xternal air is probably cold enough to keep the cabin to temperature at say 20 degrees.

Also remember that with low external temps. the A/C won't operate anyway.

we did have a warmish day last week and i set the levels to Lo on both sides but the econ button stayed illuminated when I tried to switch it off ? I spoke to the Audi garage who tell me it usually indicates it needs re-gassing....any further advice please ?

With the Econ button switched the system is basically working like a normal car without aircon. On my Allroad the buttons can then be used like normal heating and cooling dials without the aircon motor working. You will notice your fuel economy improves with the econ button on as you are running one less motor on the engine.
