I have a 1998 Peugeot 406 2.1TD. During the past couple of days the cooling fans have been remaining on for a few minutes after the ignition has been turned off and, sometimes while the engine is running, they are both turning at full speed.
The temperature gauge reading is normal (between 70-80) and the engine is not overheating.
Could this be a problem with the fan switch or something else ?
Thankyou for any helpful advice.

The problem has now got worse.
The fans is now both come on at full power immediately that the ignition switch is turned on and remain on at about half power for about 10 minutes after the ignition is turned off.
However, as previously stated, the engine is not overheating.
Help please.
Thankyou

This could be a fault with the fan circuit coolant temp sensor.Think it is a brown coloured sensor & 2 pin brown plug situated on top of thermostat housing.

This sounds like a 'Bitron' sensor fault. A forum search for 'Bitron' gave this info ....

Thankyou for the posts.
I'll check the "Bitron" temp sensor.
