VW heater troubles - martin
Hi all!

just a quick question!

The cockpit blower in my VW passat only really works on max power, lev 4, when hot air billows out loudly. The general air flow is not too good from the driver and passenger dashboard blowers and i am aware that the pipes connecting the cooling and heating systems can get blocked or can at least decay over time. Is it a simple job to give the whole system a good clean out, replace any decaying pipes and get it up and running? I was thinking of parafin and a rag type of job!

thanks

Is the pollen filter blocked ,or the fresh air to circulating are valve /vain working
Re: VW heater troubles - martin
Not sure, will check out the pollen filter if i casn find it!

thanks
Re: VW heater troubles - Dave N
If only 4 works, then it could be the blower resistor, as 4 is a straight connection to the power, where slower speeds go through the resistor. Get down behind the glovebox and see if you can confirm anything on the slower speeds.
Re: VW heater troubles - martin
thanks for the advice.

3 comes out real low, it's just about there, but 1 and 2 are not even noticable!
could it still be the resistor?
Re: VW heater troubles - Dave N
Is the blower actually working on lower settings, or only on 4?
Re: VW heater troubles - martin
it does come out a little on three, but 1 and 2 are pratically dead. Four belts away like no tomorrow however!

Martin

When I mentioned cleaning out the air intake pipes with a Rag and some paraffin I meant the Air intake to the engine - the Air filter pipe to the engine sometimes gets clogged up with sludge.

What you are describing now sounds like either a problem with the heater blower motor, or the switch may have to be replaced.
