My local rag has today a report on a driver who had been banned from driving 17 times, had been caught 3 times for drink driving, had 16 convictions for driving without insurance, 5 for TWOC'ing, and 4 for vehicle theft apart from that he was as pure as the driven snow.

He has now been banned again and sent down for 20 months.

His latest conviction was as the resultof an accident in which he (the offender ) thought he had killed a woman.

How can we stop these people driving?

Only imprisonment. There will be a way round other solutions. Anyway, what about his human rights?

House arrest would also do. Much cheaper than prison too.

As for more creative punishments I can think of plenty :-)

Crash test dummy springs to mind. Send him into a concrete block at 40 mph. On the first offence you get an ncap 5 rated vehicle. Do it again and you get one with a much lower rating - broken bones should start making some impression. 3 times and you use their old banger. Hopefully a fatal injury will stop them driving....

Only imprisonment will work on these cats who have gone the other side of the mirror.

But I would remind people that there are acts often committed that are worse than bad driving, a lot worse. However since this is about motoring let's not think about that.

Imprisonment.

Perhaps a false allegation of terrorism and hand them over to the Americans?

Or better still, record them blaspheming and hand them over to the Saudis or the Iranians or someone of that sort.

I'm afraid when it came to it HJ wouldn't be severe enough.

They were. He was already disqualified until May, he has now got another 4 years. He now has anther 2 prison sentences, which are concurrent.

Cat=individual
Going to the other side of the mirror=going through the looking glass=entering an upside down world=giving up trying (e.g. to stay on the right side of the authorities).
