Mk V Golf 2.0 GT TDI - Cidcid
When I am on a light throttle or sometimes when lifting off, there is a low volume, low frequency noise, a bit like a whistle. The car runs perfectly otherwise. Any ideas?

Turbo? Pipe to intercooler may be slightly loose (if fitted).

Probably the turbo whistling - my A3 2.0TDi does the same.

There have been complaints on other VW TDi's about a similar noise from the over-run clutch that's in the alternator's drive pulley. Does applying electrical load [lights/HRW etc.] make any difference?

A bit like the noise of an owl? If so, this is much discussed on www.uk-mkivs.net under Golf MKV and Jetta forum.
