Hello,
I have an Alpine cd/radio unit in my spider. recently for reasons I won't go into the inline fuse blew and I need to replace it.
However, the radio was installed by a PPO adn I don't have the keys. It takes the small flat keys.
My local Halfords has keys for various other makes but not Alpine.
Has anybody got any suggestions as to how I might remove it that doesn't involve removeing the dash

I've removed a fair number of car radios, and they usually just have a little catch that has to be released. A piece of stiff wire - brazing rod - pushed into the hole usually does the trick. You'll have to play around until you work out how the catches work. Once you've seen the back of the unit you'll have no problem next time... - not that it helps you now!

I'd probably take it to a car audio place and ask them to do it for you - shouldn't cost much.

McDonalds coffee stirrers did the trick for the smart head unit, as did a hack saw blade. Both fitted the slot perfectly.

Coffee stirrers hmmm...
I'll give that a go I think. I tried a junior hacaw blade but the teeth kept getting stuck.
Cheers

To see the back of the unit go to your local Cash Convertors or similar second hand place and see if they have some for sale there. It is an outside chance but worth a try.

IIRC from my radio fitting days, the Alpine units have a large flat U shapped tool that slides down each side of the unit. As sugested before take it to I.C.E. dealer and see what they can do.
If you have no joy, I'll have a dig around in my garage tonight and see if I still have a set.

Cheers appreciate that, I'll have a go and see where I get to.

If you pop off the face you may find a small pin about half way down on either side of the housing. If you push the pin up you release the retaining catch on that side and then the unit pulls out of the housing. At least that's how it was on the Alpine head units that's I've owned.
