Golf Mk3 Electrics query - cottontop
Hi all,
Just fitting a new stereo to my Mk3 Golf Estate after taking out an old Blaupunkt system. The radio stations aren't staying in the memory so its a taking from the ignition switch 12v. The problem is that there doesn't seem to be any usual colours ie yellow on the wires. can someone tell me what colour the switched 12v is and what the permanent 12v. Don't fancy forking out for someone to make a simple change....

Cheers

Richard

Permanent 12v supply is red.Earth is brown.Panel light supply (if used) is grey.

I Forget the wiring code for these, but I think the yellow is for electric aerial, only two power cables to it..large cable is switched supply as you have noticed.Would be good idea to use a voltmeter to test the voltage in cables.blue springs to mind for permanent supply.apart from brown being the earth, sketchy I know But the permanent supply cable is smaller than switched from ignition.and think they only have four wires to connector ie permanent/switched/earth/and aerial

The manaul shows a Brown for earth, Red and white stripe for Permanant 12V and a Brown and red (0.5mm) for switch 12V. Be careful it also shows a BR/RO for bass speaker front right but the cablew is ( 1mm ) Regards Peter
