306 S16 Idle Problem - hm

Hi there,

driving home last night my 1995 306 S16 deceided not to idle correctly......

basically when you come off the gas she either die's or idels roughly.......

I have checked the following:

Air Filter
Vacum Hoses
Replaced the fuel filter
fuel feed okay

The car drives fine and there is no stuttering whilst driving, but just plays up on idle. She will start with the accelerator pressed.......I'm new the petrol world......more of a diesel guy...one thing I'm not too sure about..

Whilst under the bonnet.....manually accelerate the throttle body...I can here a distint sucking coming from the around the inlet manifold just as I accelerate..I can not tell if it is internal or external, but it is there....before I go removing the inlet manifold does nay one know if this normal...I know on many petrols you can here the a slight suck on first accel, but I'm not sure.....

306 idle issues - please help - hm

Hi all, have I upset someone.....no help with my 1995 306 S16.

Basically she idle's a rough as a dog at 1000rpm, if you giver so gas then let off 8 time out of 10 she stalls.

The ECU error code cam up with a Fault code 52 - Mixture Regulator.

I have already done the following:

Swapped the idle control valve
Changed the Lambda Sensor
Checked the hoses etc
Replaced the fuel filter

Still no luck.....admittely I'm have not yet checked the plugs, I plan to change them tomorrow, it is really hard to detect an air leak...does any on have any idea's (other than removing every hose, blocking one end then blowing)

Has anyone ever had an ECU fail on a 306??

Just about the only part that didnt fail on my S16 was the ECU, but I still loved it for all its nothing below 3000 reviness!

I have a mate with a french spec GTI6 which I would imagine must use similar components and they had exactly the same problem to you which was only cured by fitting a recon ECU i'm afraid.

After much playing around I finally checked the cam belt...she was out by a tooth.......just ordered a new idler and bel;t...we be with me on Monday......I feel very lucky it was not worse....well at least I know the car inside out now...and how to flash the error codes, reset and clean the ECU without going to a garage or buying a fault finder.....
