Anybody tried these, being sold at half price by National tyres are they any good?

Take alook at this website here Bikemade3 tinyurl.com/8hba5

I found it whilst researching user opinions of Barum and Tigar tyres which are both value brands of a national tyre chain.

The conclusion I came to was that motorists seem to prefer the performance of the cheaper Tigar brand to the Barum brand.

Whatever, it does show up some interesting finds on all sorts and all types of tyres based on users reports. It is an international site, so for some of the comments you will need to use a search engine translation tool. You will find Tigar in "all season tyres" and Barum in "Private vehicle - sommer tyres"

Good Luck.

Barum are Continental's budget brand.

In August 05 Autoexpress did a comprehensive test of 20 makes of 185/60R14 tyre, the Barum Bravuris came 11 th out of the 20.

The top 5 were:
1 Vredestein Hi-trac
2 Maloya Futura Primato
3 Continental ContiEcoContact 3
4 Fulda Carat Attiro
5 Uniroyal Rallye 550

15 years ago approx ##### had a major problem with their car tyres in the fact that it was found a lot that had been imported into this country had a speed rating of only something like 25 mph(maybe not ####### fault as they may have been destined for the third world)anyway mud sticks in my mind and personally i wouldnt buy them through my blinkered eyes and anyway im a kumho fan for budget tyres

I had some cheap Barums, a few years ago, on a Rover and I don't know about the grip but the wear rate was dreadful. They didn't cost much and they didn't last long! The wear was even and high so it wasn't a tracking problem - just a not very good tyre

Agree with Oldman that Kumho is probably the best of the 'budget' brands. In fact I'm guessing that it won't be long before Kumho are considered a 'premium' brand. It was only 10 years ago that Toyo were considered 'budget' - not any more....

At one time all the major tyre manufacturers used to make a "budget" version of their products (remember John Bull etc) which were basically the same, but cheaper.

IIRC Michelin invested in Hankook a couple of years ago and was due to allow it to use Michelin technology.

Michelin would appear to be interested in a few budget brands. According to the Tigar MH website (dated March 2005) Michelin are also about to take control of Tigar tyres by becoming the majority shareholder.
