Thanks Graham, I have used Pro Tyre's mobile tyre fitting service.
Re HJ's list I will phone around the Bristol area and report back.
HJ, surely a lift on which the car is standing on it's wheels is a satisfactory alternative to a pit?
Regards.

yes, they mostly use lifts now for H&S reasons and also easier on the tech (no climbing up and down the steps)!.
Jim Beam is a top bit of kit and has software covering all the JDM imports (which is handy for me).

I have the impresssion, almost certainly from this forum that Protyre and Micheldever are the same organisation /company.
If you look, certainly many parts of their web site are clones / absolute copies, same bike picture etc. which seems more than coincidence.

These use a lift and seem competent. East Yorks.

I was warned by ATS that one front tyre of my Legacy was wearing down at the shoulder. I took it into the main dealer and had a complete geometry realignment, the car being less that 12 months old. When I got the results sheet it was incomprehensible to me, so I asked the chap on reception to explain it for me. He looked at it long and said, "I can't explain it either, but you can be sure that the alignment now is correct!"
A few months later I had the car serviced (oil change etc.)at 18 000 miles. The same chap approached me accompanied by a mechanic and advised me to have the geometry checked because the shoulder of the tyre was down. He offered a discount for a new set of tyres for the front, saying that the tyres were dangerous.
A. He'd forgotten that they had totally realigned it a few months previously.
B. I've driven since his parents were twinkles in grandma's eyes. I know when tyres are dangerous.
I went into ATS a few weeks later (winter is coming and I wanted to change front tyres anyhow, 21 000 miles). They replaced the tyres and corrected the front alignment. But, it was a bolt-on laser guage and I don't know if they had a calibration certificate. And, was the guy just making a bit of extra money. It's a cruel world when no-one trusts anyone else.

I have spoken to Pro Tyre, they have confirmed that they are part of the same group of companies as Micheldever, only £11.75 for a check, I will report again.
|
Is that £11.75 for 4 way alignment check??? I thought I paid much more than that @ Micheldever.
btw both times I've been to Micheldever the queue has been well over an hour and a half, despite full complement of fitters etc. Amazing what a good reputation can do for a business...

Yup, £11.75 for the check, £23.50 (inc check) if one axle needs toe in/out adjustment, £47-00 (inc check) if both axles need toe in/out adjustment. Then if any wheel needs camber adjustment it is a further £11.75 a wheel.

I'm not sure if its the same thing but www.alignmycar.co.uk/ lists centres which have the Hunter Alignment equipment.
|
used the Centre Locator - my nearest is at Broughtons of Pangbourne - a very new, swish Bentley dealership - I'll call and ask if they would do the 405 and the Focus!

Do Hunter make the best equipment?

www.alignmycar.co.uk has a centre locator
just as i had posted above ! ( see post timed Tue 3 Jan 06 19:45 )

I am going to get mine done today, will report back.
|
Had it done today at Pro Tyre, Bristol, was given a print out, Having replaced the rear subframe bushes myself I was intersted in the effect that this may have had on the alignment though the technician was not that keen on me asking questions, nevertheless an efficient service, total of £35.25 for the check and to have one rear toe adjusted slightly plus the front alignment done.
Good value.

I recently visited a 4-wheel laser alignment in Leicester who checked the toe f r, camber f r, castor f, and thrust angle. They charged £10 initially and another £15 for any adjustment. They gave a first printout that shows where the corrections are required and ask you for authorization before they carry it out. Then they gave a second/final sheet that shows final values. Service was ok too. Prior to the alignment they also checked the tyre sizes and pressures and also ride height I think. good value overall, Their website is www.tyresgalore.co.uk/index.htm .
hope this helps someone in the area
