This caught my eye, I thought LPG vehicles were only converted from petrols not diesels?

Lol. I assumed this too but;
" MECHANICLLY THERE IS A FAULT WITH THE INJECTORS OR PUMP AS IT IS OVER FUELING, CAUSING BLACK SMOKE FROM THE ENGINE."
suggests we're both right to be questioning it!

Dont know the facts or problems behind LPG diesel conversion,But I have read it can and is done.Not come across one myself but-some firms advertise it on the net,good or bad have no idea,someone who has tried may be along shortly?

Doesn't seem much poin to me. Convert a petrol - yes. But a diesel?
|
I believe there is a system that injects a supplementary charge LPG into the diesel engine to increase power or efficiency. Probably more bother and expense than it is worth,
Snake oil??

It's only added as a supplement to the diesel, increasing power. Adding LPG allows for a more dense mixture, much as nitrous oxide does in petrol engines, and allowing more diesel to be injected and burnt. The only problem is exhaust gas temperature, as it can easily go above a critical 1000degC, so it really needs to be monitored.

Its being offered for sale on ebay
The owner states the following;
'IT IS OVER FUELING, CAUSING BLACK SMOKE FROM THE ENGINE.'
'THIS VEHICLE IS 30% CHEAPER TO RUN THAN A NORMAL DIESEL ASTRA.'
Somehow I doubt it with all that excess smoke
|
To be fair, a normal diesel Astra spews out enough black smoke as it is ;o

There's a firm in Germany that converts diesel buses into LPG;but on these they add a plate between the block and the head to lower CR and fit spark plugs-a distributor added elsewhere and then these buses are less polluting for town-centre work.
|
I think it's CNG they convert them to but they could be run on either.

You've all got it a bit right and wrong yes lots of truck (bin waggons & buses mainly)diesels are converted to run on LPG just to reduce pollution around town. I spoke to some Mechanics who were with me on a course at the Cummins factory and it was a bit of a nitmare for them as the engines were a bit of frankenstiens monster, basicaly as stated diesel engines converted to be petrol engines.
Now there are large slow speed marine diesels that now run on LPG. Fitted to large LPG carriers, the fuel is obtained from the cargo boil (i can explain that one further if any one is interested!) Also many off shore instalations use gas direct from the wells, to power large Diesel power generation plant
These engine can be duel fuel and the gas injection varies but the more modern systems are quite sofisticated

I have only heard of trucks being coverted to CNG not LPG.

Yes sorry but any time in my orginal answer i've mentioned LPG just quote it as Gas as i'm not sure what is what... Some old land fill sites & dissused coal mines that bleed off methane gas from the rotting garbage also use large diesel gen sets running off the bleed off gas and put surplus electricity into the grid
