my mate just called about a prob on his mk4 vw bora that he needs to diagnose
its a mk4 shape 130 tdi
he reckons with the clutch down it sounds okay but half way up it makes a bogus noise...did these cars have dual mass flywheels or something like that? any common transmision problems?
just looking for some pointers as im trying to help him decide what it needs

Well, I'm not sure what a 'bogus' noise is! I suspect that these do have the dual mass flywheel - he'd better hope its not that, they are biggest pain out at the moment. Really, with this sort of thing its better to get a garage to listen to it - remote diagnosis of noises via the internet is almost impossible. Could be flywheel, thrust bearing or gearbox bearing, or indeed something up with the centre plate or pressure plate.

well what are the symtoms of a failed dual mass flywheel?? costs involved??
thing is , hes a foreign chap and garages try to rip him off , he turns to me as im fairly im the know about older golfs but not newer ones
just trying to get some info..and then i'll have a test drive and see if i can offer some advice
