Hi guys,
wonder if you could throw some light on this!
L reg (93/94) 1.3 cg13 engine. no start, have good spark, seems to have too much fuel. new plugs, will fire fuel if removed and placed over plugholes. engine may then start & run ok when hot. next morn cold same thing. Have tried new ect sensor, injction fuse out & spinning over 30 sec, and have read the blink codes in ecu which is 55, (ie clear)!
You mentioned a resistor from the main dealer, I queried my local dealer who said it was for 1tr engines only, unless you know different. this started 2 weeks ago (cold & damp) now pulling my hair out and friends who own it being very patient.

Many thanks in advance,
Andy

Isn't there a modified bit of loom to the CTS available from dealer?

there is a sub loom, listed for 1ltr engine, I'm trying to find out if it also works for 1.3 as the dealer instructions read as 1ltr only. Has anyone tried it? Also why has it only played up now, @ 103ks 12 years old?

I would recommend replacing the coolant temp sensor first. At its age its quite likely to have gone out of spec cold. It seems that the Micra tends towards over-rich anyway when very cold. If this doesnt completely sort it theres no prob fitting the resistive loom to a 1.3.

I think he wrote that he'd channged the coolant temp sensor ('ect' = engine coolant temp?). I would try the loom.

So he did! Too eager to dive in!

O.K. Guys, have fitted the resistor loom from dealers, still had to take the plugs out to start it, they were soaked! I hope this was just residue from previous starting attempts. Once started I took it for a pink fluffy dice good (sorry 'bout that but you don't know how frustrated I am with this! {about as frustrated as I am having to edit it out. Take note, it's far easier to delete than edit; which I'll contemplate doing next time - DD}) thrash, shades of Basil with his branch here, to clear it out. Now just got to wait 'till morning to see if all is well on cold start.Fingers crossed! Athame

Athame, how did you get on, only my '95 K11 wouldn't start this morning. Must be these cold, damp nights. I'd encountered the flooding problem before and always got it to splutter back to life with the removal of fuel pump fuse trick, but today I cranked as much as I dare and no sign of firing. Spoke to guy at Nissan garage re sensor and wiring loom mods; he said problem was over-fuelling, and that the wiring loom alone (£8 ish) should suffice as the coolant temp sensor mod was for the flooding problem i.e. starting car for a few seconds before turning off.

Anyway, should get the part for Friday. Is it easy to fit, and has it seemed to cure your problem? Cheers.

Got engine started yesterday with lots of cranking, no need to dry plugs. Fitted the harness (B4079-50B00) today. Easy enough DIY job, just plugs into itself. Won't work though - flooded engine again - so have took it off. Am I right to suspect that the harness will only work with the modified coolant temp sensor? Anyone? Thanks.

1. Don't run the engine for only a few seconds when it's cold and then switch it off. If you do it will be flooded next time you try to start the following morning.

2. Don't use the car for short trips all the time. The O2 sensor will get coated and fool the ECU into thinking the oxygen content in the exhaust is lower than it actually is, and it will richen accordingly thus causing difficulty in cold starting.

Try giving the car a good blast up the road for about 30 miles...

Hi Railroad

In my case neither apply, and I am well aware of what you say having owned the car six years. I just came out the other morning and the thing wouldn't start. Anyway, some serious cranking / fuse removal trick gets it going again eventually, so don't think I'll mess around with these 'fixes'.
