OK

You know the story.....

1. MiL crashed car and written off;
2. SWMBO gives her Trajet to MiL and SWMBO takes my Scooby;
3. I get to drive 'spare' 10yo Fiesta 1.25 which is fine for a few days;
4. MiL may keep Trajet for a few months and I am going spare without central locking, electric windows, a radio and most importantly automatic gearbox, my knees hurt.

So, if she does keep the Trajet, I want a car which has automatic, central locking, electic windows, electric heated door mirrors, and ....a radio!

I also want a disposable car. I may keep it three or six months. If MiL keeps the Trajet we will sell it to her and I will get the Scooby back, buying a new car for SWMBO.

So, what to I buy. I don't want to spend more than about £1,500.

Any ideas about what and where to buy.

I'm going out now to the pictures. I'll look again tomorrow and expect more than a few responses.......

Oh and by the way, anyone who comes from the north west and suggests a Mondeo TDCi will get a pint poured over them at the BR NW New Year meet - when Adam finally get around to sorting it out [sigh].

I'm from the South West and you can't have a TDCi for 1500 quid so I think im safe to recommend...

a 98 Mondeo 2.0 16v Ghia.

Hurrah!

I can second the idea of an Almera Automatic

Wife has the 1999 SRi auto 1.6. It has all round electric windows, air con and central locking - all the gizmos that you want for around £2k or less!

How about a Pero or Suzuki Alto, plenty around going cheap. ???

Have fun!!

Hey come on guys, I'm already in a Fiesta. ideas ideas.....

How about an Alfa selespeed - can you get one for £1500?

I don't want a rep mobile.... i'll only be doing about 3,000 miles.

I love alfas but i woudn't touch a selespeed with a barge pole, They can be very unrealiable and any car that was £1500 will probably cost you that to fix it.

You can't get them for £1500 usually but a lexus/toyota soarer in an auto would be right up your street.... There is actually a J reg V8 32v auto in birmingham going for £1295 trade. Bridge Motor company they're called.

Of course I want 1500 quids worth of exotic shed. What's the point of sending the Fiesta back to the smoke to live as a spare car for MiL if I can't have something exotic.

Soarer eh? Interesting.....

Why not just spend 500 notes on a tidy Honda Accord auto - early to mid 1990s seem to be available easily enough and the odds are that all the toys will still be working.

YOu want exotica sheds?

Now I'm getting excited!!

Thought about a Honda Accord 4WS which I had a few years ago. Reliable and a great handling car.

Fiat Coupe - Hmm not auto, but i could cope with that body.

Why don't you give MiL the Fiesta or tell her to find her own car.
Problem solved.

He is just too nice to her. The more you look after your inlaws, the more certain that they will leave it all to the cat's home, or the RSPB.

I know, it happened to me!>

I know you are talking temporary car, but in case you end up with a Fiat Coupe having had your interest tickled:

If you are nearish to High Wycombe, Bucks, to make it viable for you, there is a Fiat Coupe independent specialist with a stonking reputation that some people are prepared to travel the length and breadth of the country to use.

If you are ever interested, please ask and I will give my N reg Coupe owning friend a call. They've had theirs for years and years and not only love it but have had no trouble with it that I am aware of beyond normal wear and tear. Theirs won't be the one RF spotted because they have no intention of selling!

Thanks to Google, and knowing the approximate area where they are located, I just found 'em: www.l-m.co.uk/contactus.html (cut n paste)

Ta, but in Manchester

ANd thansk for calling me a gent. It is an option for MiL to take the Fiesta back, but only if she decides not to stay in her current profession of sort of chauffeur/executive taxi.

Yes they did do an auto. Should get a half decent S13 for that kind of money

Exciting. Strangely, before reading the thread (and only its title) I was going to suggest a £200 MKii Golf/Polo... but I guess that won't suit you. Even a Golf GTI?

1. A nearly new ex-auction Octavia/Passat/A4. 3 months' use won't cost you 1500 if you sell it later. Might even make some money on it!

2. A proper classiccar - a W123 Mercedes. If you want something sportier, go for the 280 rather than the 230. The 200 islike an escargot. £500 budget. If your 'disposable' budget is 1500 then you can have 2 more ifthe first one dies... £1500 will get you leather etc. ebay 4592179670

3. A w124 Mercedes. Bit more expensive. but only a bit. Maybe £50 more. 4593434763

4. An Audi 100. 2.8 V6 quattro might just be attainable. You'll never go back to the scooby.

5. Series II. Except you won't get one with heating (!) for that price. PU will identify why that would be an attractive choice - beyond me ,though...

6. Audi 90 20V coupe. Quattro if you can. easily attainable for that price - beware worn valve guides& oily smoke trail...

4593434763 - just look at it...

Mk2 Astra? Electic heater mirrors, good radio, automatic, nice cabin, reasonably nippy. Loads for your price.

If we're playing the eBay numbers game, 4592373091 - I know Mapmaker would approve and it's your end of the country, too.
