Here's a suggestion: go on-line and use the search-engine thingy called Google. Type in: C C Cleaner. You will then get taken to a web-site and you can down-load, for free, the utility called CC Cleaner. Save this to the Desk-top. Once you have done that, come out of everything and go to the desk-top and double-click the icon that says something like: ccsetup125. Doing this will the load the cc programme onto your system.
Once you can access it( double-click the CC icon), run analyze and then run clean. So doing will not only clean out your old history, sights visited and cookies etc, it will also clean out Windows 'secret' folder called ( roughly ) index.dat. This is a thing that keeps a seperate note of everthing you have ever visited/downloaded etc and remains there even when you THINK you have cleared everything up in the traditional way, such as 'clear history' etc.
It works.

You can set the History to retain visited websites from a day for almost as long as you wish.
If you set it at nought or 1 it will do the bulk for you - otherwise (if you have Internet Explorer) go to Tools>Internet Options>Clear History tab each day.
You can also Enable Empty Temporary Internet Files when Browser is Closed from the Advanced tab.
PS
Remember that youngsters probably know more about your system than you do and will most likely be able to cover their own tracks, if necessary, very easily...:-)
