Hope guys can help out ...
Last night all 4 windows on my 2004 A4 TDi opened approx. 3 inches by themselves ... and then it pelted rain all night long. 'Twas a very soggy journey to work this morning - my pants have not felt like this since I was a very small boy.
3 questions I hope you guys can help with:
- Any ideas on how to rectify the phantom windows?
- How should I dry the inside of the car out? I was think of running the air con at full tilt and hot with the engine on for a while. Windows up or down?
- Anything special I should do with the leather seats?
Thanks for reading - any ideas you have would be very welcome indeed.

Were the keys in your pocket?
Sounds to me like you've accidently pressed and held the "open" button on the remote. It's easier done than you think!!
If you hold the open button for more than 3 seconds, the windows will open. (they stop lowering when you release the button).
(you can close the windows by holding the "lock" button)

Air-con on,hot and recirc-windows closed should dry it out quickest.

Thanks for the replies.
MoneyMart - my wife reckons the same thing ... last night was OK so hopefully was my fault rather than something wrong with the car.
jc - thanks ... had not thought to keep recirc. on so will give that a shot.

Not sure recirc on is a good idea. Surely you want maximum through flow of air to remove the moisture the a/c pulls out of the upholstery?

The aircon will dehumidify the air and pump it back around, dehumidified air, as opposed to external air, will absorb more moisture the next time around.

It depends on the external humidity;recirc will normally be better as you do not have to heat and dry it each time;try it both ways!

Surely the a/c dehunidifies the air on the way in, the air picks up moisture and exits, taking the moisture along with it. Recirc just keeps the moisture in the car.

No;the recirculated air goes back thro' the air-con unit where it is dried and then heated by the heating matrix.

fair point! I was thinking more of moving the damp air ot of the car, but you're right, the moisture would be pulled out by the a/c.

Thanks for all the replies. I drove it for an hour last night with the air con on full tilt and recirculating - dried it up remarkably quickly.
Must give it a good clean now!

Leather seats to go, then.
Make sure that they are dry.
Clean with Autoglym leather cleaner.
Treat with Autoglym leather care cream.
If they really were soaked, re-treat with the care cream.
There are other good manufacturers of leather care products, but I've used Autoglym with good results.
