Anyone any tips on getting oil stains out of a brick type drive. I know petrol does the job but it is not a popular method with neighbours and propriety products don't shift the marks.

Our method is to scrub in some good quality traffic film remover with a stiff yard brush and then give it a good blasting with the jet wash.

I've just bought a bottle of Gunk Driveway Cleaner for that purpose (£3.50, I think). When I getroundtuit, I'll let you know if it works.

I poured some white spirit on some gear oil I spilled a few months ago and it seemed to just vanish after leaving it on for 5 minutes or so. My guess is it soaked the oil into the brick. Worth a try.

Having tried some degreasing solvent a few years ago, it managed to take out the oil, but removed all the binding properties in the tarmac. So the moral is try a test area first!

Any solvent should do the trick, such as white spirit, petroleum spirit, acetone etc. Failing these, rub some neat Fairy liquid in, then rinse, you could do a lot worse!

Might be fine on a brick surface, but I recently spilt some white spirit on the tarmac out the back of our house and you can still see where it landed.

A good scrub with Fairy Liquid worked on my drive when it was concrete, but seems much less effective on brick.

Coca Cola or Pepsi works quite well, needs to be nice & dry though and may need a few goes.
