another issue with my mondeo, my brake would occasionally squeak but recently i noticed them starting to squeel when the pedal wasn't depressed ansd then stop when it was!!
bit confusing so i presume something is sticking.
i got some copper grease spray from halfords (didn't have actual tub of grease) and gave a good spray. no problem for a week now its back.
can i WD40 something?
oh by the whay this is once the cars warmed up and not when cold.

My Omega does the same on the rear nearside. Disk & pad perfectly OK and as you it doesn't do it cold, only after been going for quite a few miles and more so in warm weather.
Doesn't do it when not using brakes though. My mechanic says he can see no reason for this and other than change the pads, which is not necessary not much else can be done to cure it permanently. As you say a spray of lub cured it for a week but then it was back. Personally, I wouldn't use a grease spray and as long as the brakes were working ok thats the main thing. It can be irritating though!

Yes, you could also stop it squealing by applying the hand-brake just a little.
The reason this happens is because the pad does not retract away from the disk enough. There may well be contamination (grit, water) or interference (metal to metal rubbing) in the cylinder immediately at the back of the pad that effects its movement.

I have had this problem a couple of times on my '02 Mondeo, it is caused by the rear brake binding, on a couple of occasions one or other wheel has got quite warm from the increased friction, I had one new caliper under warrnaty however the solution is to dismantle the calipers and copper grease the sliders (the section that allows the two halves of the caliper to move independantly), also it is worth checking that the handbrake cable is not seizing and therefore causing the brake to bind.

Rear brakes binding was the subject of a recall on early MK3 Mondeo models as far as I can remember.
May be worth contacting Ford or one of their dealers.
