Having had an acrylic number plate shattered (by a stone, presumably) I was wondering if:
a)Aluminium Reflective number plates are legal on a year old car?
b)Are they even available anymore?

www.framptons.net supply new style pressed aluminium plates.
Click on the link, then click number plate making, then scroll to the bottom of the page.

Yes Bert they've got quite a selection haven't they! I've not ordered from them myself, but they have been recommended to me for 1970's style pressed aluminium plates.

"Aluminium Reflective number plates are legal on a year old car?"
Don't think so - doesn't the vehicle have to be pre-1970 (-ish)?

I too was surprised BUT assuming BS AU 145d is the currect standard then.
"These plates, which fully comply with British Standard BS AU 145d, are made from pressed reflective aluminium to a completely new design."

Looking at the website I assumed the reflective layer was laminated to an aluminium backing.
Not sure how the plastic letters are then fitted. I remember the old raised plastic numbers wilting after UV exposure.
