Something I should probably already know the answer too but....
I seem to remember being told when I started driving that you should never let a diesel run out of fuel - and that it would need a mechanic to bleed it (air?) to restart.
Was this true and is this still the case on modern cars such as the Mondy.
I might be running the tank a bit lower than usual if the panic buying goes on all week - but don't fancy an AA call.

This was true yes and to an extent, still is but your Mondeo will be fine.
Modern Ford diesels at least (and I'm sure others too) never let the tank run out. They will stop before the tank runs out to prevent this problem.
